February 9, 2023

February provides a wonderful opportunity for students, their families, and friends to celebrate the dramatic arts at the Guild of the Vale. Our talented students will perform a musical “We Are Monsters” on Tuesday, February 14th at 6:00 at the Guild of the Vale. All Academy students and their teachers will attend the dress rehearsal that afternoon. The professional version of that, offered in the evening, is a different experience. Please consider attending with your extended family. The evening production will be open to the general public. Tickets are free.

It is hard to believe that the 2022-23 school year is at the halfway point! In fact, the 100th day of school was January 23rd.Parents, if you are happy with your children’s progress, continue what you have been doing to support that progress. If you need a “tune-up”, follow the suggestions of your children’s teachers. They want your children to succeed. The best support you can provide to your children’s academic progress is to get them to school every day on time. Ensure they are present for morning interventions, after-school help, and every core subject. This includes active participation in the afternoon arts program which, research shows, has a positive impact on academic learning. Progress reports will be sent out the first week of February that will identify any areas where your children may still be struggling. If you have any questions when you receive these, please contact your children’s teachers.

Our annual registration is scheduled for March 10th. If you know anyone with a child that will be eligible for the 2023-24 kindergarten class, please spread the word about our upcoming registration. Equally important, parent-teacher conferences are March 6th through March 10th. Additional information contained in this newsletter serves as a valuable resource to keep you updated on your child’s school experience.

I want to thank everyone for your continued support of our students, teachers, and school as we collectively strive to provide optimal opportunities for learning each and every day. There is no question about it – success at school starts at home. Families are the most significant influence in a child’s schooling. Families model both spoken and silent language in front of their students. One of the hallmarks of a great school is the partnership established between school and family in the best interest of the students – everyone working together to build skills and knowledge, develop a strong sense of self-worth, and reinforce values. Make an effort to participate in the Mesa Arts Academy Parent Organization (MAAPO). Thank you for your wonderful feedback in the survey. We promise to put this information to good use.

As we begin December, I look back and think how quickly the school year has gone by so far! I would like to thank each and every one of you for your patience and support as we work through this transition of leadership. Your kindness and patience are something I am grateful for.

We know that the holiday season is a hectic one, where people can be coming and going, always in a rush. However, as a community, we have to be sure that we are paying attention to what matters most – the safety of our children. That is why we wanted to take some time to remind our families of a few of the protocols we have in place to help us ensure student safety. We know these protocols may take a few extra moments, but in the end, they are worth the time they take.

  • First, please be prepared to answer a few important questions when entering MAA, and be prepared to show identification for the purpose of dismissing or speaking with your child.
  • If your child is going to be absent, please inform the school as soon as possible. If we do not hear from a parent or guardian, the school will need to contact you; please be sure we have the correct phone number on file.
  • Lastly, if you call the school and ask for information regarding your child, please be prepared to wait or even receive a call back. We cannot share any information over the phone until we have confirmed who we are speaking with, ensuring we have authorization from the parent or guardian to communicate with the person requesting the information.

I hope to see everyone at our holiday shows. Please see the calendar for dates and times.

Again, thank you for all you do to help make MAA such a success. Always remember that as a school community, we are here for you. As always, if you have any questions feel free to call the main office at (480) 844-3965

Well, here we go! The 2nd quarter of the school year has officially started. It appears our stretch of warm weather is over (keeping my fingers crossed)! I hope you are all able to enjoy it. With this in mind, please remember to send your child to school with appropriate clothing for outdoor play as the weather keeps cooling down.

I would like to wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving and a terrific holiday season. Over the next weeks, I am sure many of you will be busy preparing for family and friends to visit. As this holiday season progresses, it is important to keep in mind how the interruptions of the holidays impact the students. We would ask that you take an extra moment to help your child focus and stay on task with schoolwork while enjoying this time of year.

Winter showcases are coming up; check the calendar in this newsletter for dates and times. I am looking forward to seeing
all of our talented students.

Our Student Council has been busy planning events for our school community. Please keep an eye out for flyers with more information.

some new staff and they are trained to ask for ID.
  • If your child is going to be absent or late, please inform the school as soon as possible. If we do not hear from a parent or guardian, the school will need to contact you; please be sure we have the correct phone number on file.
