Me gustaría desearles a ustedes y a sus familias un muy feliz Día de Acción deGracias y unas maravillosas fiestas. Dear Mesa Arts Academy Families,
I would like to wish you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving and a terrific holiday season. Over the next weeks, I am sure many of you will be busy preparing for family and friends to visit.
As this holiday season progresses, it is important to keep in mind how the interruptions of the holidays impact the students. We would ask that you take an extra moment to help your child focus and stay on task with school work while enjoying this time of year. We have supportive parents and community, with a giving and engaged MAAPO at the forefront, to which we all say thank you for everything you do to make MAA the highly rated school it is today. And finally, we have incredible students, who challenge themselves every day to learn and be engaged as well as challenging us to become better people. They are why we are here every day!
We are always looking to keep our students safe and healthy in school. Please note that children must remain home until they are fever-free for a full 24 hours without medication for any illness. Please check your children before they leave for school in the morning and keep them home if they are ill, especially with fever. Please be reminded not give them medication for fever and then send them to school, as fever can indicate a contagious stage, potentially affecting others.
Winter showcases are coming up; check the calendar in this newsletter for dates and times. I am looking forward to seeing all of our talented students.

Estimadas familias de Mesa Arts Academy:
El año escolar 2023/2024 ya está en marcha. Las audiciones para el musical extraescolar están completas. Hemos programado estudiantes que requieren asistencia académica adicional para esa ayuda y los maestros se reúnen mensualmente para evaluar el progreso de cada estudiante. Octubre siempre es un mes divertido en la escuela… nos sumergiremos en todo lo relacionado con el otoño mientras nos preparamos para la ocupada temporada navideña. Octubre es el mes del Listón Rojo. El final de octubre (23-31 de octubre) se formalizó como Semana del Listón Rojo en 1988 mediante una proclamación del Congreso de los Estados Unidos.
Cada mes de octubre, decenas de miles de escuelas, agencias gubernamentales y organizaciones de servicios sociales organizan actividades de la Semana del Listón Rojo. Dear Mesa Arts Academy Families,
The 2023/2024 school year is well underway.
Auditions are complete for the after-school musical.
We have scheduled students who require extra academic assistance for that help and teachers are meeting monthly to evaluate the progress of each student.
October is always a fun month at school. We’ll be diving into all things Fall as we gear up to the busy holiday season.
October is Red Ribbon month. The end of October (October 23-31) became formalized as Red Ribbon Week in 1988 by a proclamation of the United States Congress. Red Ribbon Week activities are organized each October by tens of thousands of schools, government agencies, and social service organizations. The main purpose of Red Ribbon Week is to celebrate and promote positive choices and healthy, drug free lifestyles for young people and adults in the United States. MAA always celebrates Red Ribbon week with fun activities. Details will follow.

Estimadas familias de Mesa Arts Academy:
¡Me complace darles la bienvenida nuevamente al año escolar 2023-2024! Me gustaría dar una bienvenida especial a todas las nuevas familias que se unen a MAA este año, ¡así como también darles la bienvenida a nuestras familias que regresan! Es un honor para mí ser su director.
Nuestro objetivo en MAA es tra-bajar juntos para brindarles a nuestros estudiantes un entorno de aprendizaje rico. ¡Mi visión, como directora, es SIEMPRE poner a los niños primero! Mi creencia es que todos los estudiantes pueden aprender. Como educadores, ne-cesitamos descubrir cómo aprende cada niño para poder diferenciar nuestra instrucción y apoyar diversos estilos de aprendizaje. En un esfuerzo colaborati-vo, queremos que los niños prosperen de todas las formas posibles. Mi esperan-za es que a todos los niños les ENCANTE la escuela, por eso fomentamos un ambiente de aprendizaje que sea positivo, seguro, cálido y afectuoso, así como un lugar divertido para aprender y crecer.
El éxito de los estudiantes se atribuye a la colaboración y las relaciones que construimos dentro de nuestra comuni-dad, y esto es MÁS importante ahora que nunca. Realmente se necesita todo un pueblo y, en MAA, valoramos el trabajo en equipo y la colaboración. La educa-ción es una empresa conjunta y el equipo MAA aprecia enormemente el apoyo que brindan a sus hijos en el hogar y en la escuela para ayudarlos a alcanzar sus objetivos de aprendizaje. Sin el apoyo de las contribuciones de los padres a tra-vés de nuestra extraordinaria Organización de Padres de Mesa Arts Academy, no tendríamos muchos de los programas que hacen que MAA sea tan única y exitosa. Dear Families,
The warmer weather is finally upon us! There are many events during the last 14 days of school; refer to the school calendar for the schedule. If you plan for your child to return for the 2023-2024 school year, please let Ms. Jazmyne know if you did not return your returning form. Do you have a child who will be 5 years old by September 1st? Please contact the office to get registration forms.
At this time, we will be offering summer school sessions by invitation only. Please see the school calendar for Kindergarten and 8th Grade Graduation days and times. The last day of school is Thursday, May 25th.
Parent opinions are important to Mesa Arts Academy. Please take a few moments to share your opinions with us by completing the parent survey.

April 2023 Newsletter
We have reached the countdown to our high stakes testing! All 3rd-8th grade students will participate in the computerized version of the AASA state assessment. Our 5th and 8th grade students will also take the computer version of the AZSCI Science assessment. We will start this process the first school day in April (Monday, April 3rd) with a fabulously fun testing Pep Rally. The teachers will be performing. Teachers will need your support so that your children do as well as they possibly can on the tests. Please check the calendar and ensure that your children are in attendance and on time on the days they will be testing. Students who must do make-up testing do not do as well as those who test with their class. We will do our best to maintain a positive environment on campus during testing. You can help by getting them to school every day on time. Be sure they are well rested and have a positive attitude. They will have many additional breaks throughout the day and will have no homework during testing time. We will provide every student who is testing with a good breakfast and snacks. Teachers may ask you to help with this by providing donations of breakfast foods and snacks. Together we can turn this testing into a positive experience.
Remind your children that they are ready for these tests and that you have confidence in their abilities to do well. That is, perhaps, the best thing you can do for your children during this critical assessment time. We believe in them and so should you. Thank you so much for your support.

¡Hemos llegado a la cuenta regresiva para nuestras pruebas de alto riesgo! Todos los estudiantes de 3.° a 8.° grado participarán en la versión computarizada de la evaluación estatal de AASA. Nuestros estudiantes de 5.º y 8.º grado también tomarán la versión de computadora de la evaluación de Ciencias AZSCI Comenzaremos este proceso el primer día de clases en abril (lunes 3 de abril) con un Pep Rally de prueba fabulosamente divertido. March 2023 Newsletter
March is such a great month at MAA. Our Garden is ready for planting and the weather is perfect for outdoor learning. Testing season has begun; please be sure your child gets a good night’s rest the day before tests. Teachers will be sending out testing information soon. Registration packets for next year will go home after Spring Break.
8th Grade Parents: Now is the time to register for High School. Many High Schools in the area give tours. Let the front desk know if your child is out due to a tour and they will not be counted as late. If you need help finding the right High School, please feel free to contact me.
We Respect Each Other
Being respectful is more than just using good manners—it means treating people the way you want to be treated. Keep these ideas in mind to help your whole family focus on respect.
Use peaceful tones—It’s a fact that shouting often leads to more shouting. Ask your child to speak in a normal tone to show respect for the person they are talking to, and for everyone around them.
Avoid making assumptions—Your youngster can respect others’ feelings by giving them the benefit of the doubt. For example, encourage your child to rephrase an accusation like, “Who took my water bottle?” Instead, they could ask, “Has anyone seen my water bottle?” That is more respectful because it won’t make anyone feel accused or defensive.
Accept different opinions—With your child, role-play ways to respect opinions that are different from their own. They might start a sentence with, “That’s one way to look at it, but I think—” or, “A lot of people would agree with you. In my opinion—” If a conversation is getting heated, your child could simply say, “Let’s agree to disagree and talk about something else.”
